Closing Weekend and snow!

Posted on
I would like to start this blog off with something completely unrelated. Telluride posted this photo on facebook with the caption, "You might be in Telluride if... Dogs outnumber humans in the office." Love it! (Telluride is one of the biggest dog-loving towns in the world.)

Anyway! This weekend was closing weekend for most of the resorts in Summit County. Go figure that mother nature decides to drop 15" of snow in those two days!!! It was pretty crazy, but I guess it was a great way for the resorts to end after a crappy season. It also gives a little sigh of relief to all areas of Colorado that got snow... We needed the moisture to lower the wildfire danger!

A couple of the resorts held some awesome season-ending festivities. Vail and Breck held some awesome outdoor concerts, Breck also had beer fest, but my favorite end-all goes to Copper Mountain with Sunsation 2012! Sunsation is an awesome mix of everything fun- From outdoor concerts, to adventure racing, to their Slope Soakers Rail Jam. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves! *All pictures are courteous of Copper's and Woodward at Copper's facebook page. One word describes these pictures: EPIC!

Breckenridge Throwback Throwdown

Posted on
Seems like the Vail resorts aren't letting the lack of snow ruin all their fun! Check out this awesome and entertaining event that went down at Breckenridge!
(Words from Transworld Snowboarding Magazine, see the original article here.)

"In celebration of Breckenridge's 50th anniversary, Breck and Rockstar Energy Drink combined forces to create the inaugural Breckenridge Throwback Thowdown. Living legends like Chris Pappas, Nate Doggg, Steve Fisher, Todd Franzen and Chad Otterstrom were in attendance, as well as young guns Luke Mitrani, Danny Davis, Taylor Gold and Zack Black. With riders’ aged from thirteen to forty-eight, this event was truly a mash up of old and new styles. "

Check Dummers was wearing a sweater vest and doing sweet hand-plants all day.
"This was not your average contest to say the least. The age differences combined with era specific features and tricks made for an entertaining event. Young and old alike were celebrating the history of snowboarding. In the morning things got started at the top of Breckenridge’s superpipe where riders were given three runs to impress the judges. These invite-only participants were not allowed to spin any tricks over a 540. Extra points were given based on style and props for era-appropriate gear and clothing. After a quick lunch break, the competition continued in the hand-dug 1986 replica pipe built by the Breckenridge Park Crew. Close to the base and rowdy spring breakers, anything went"

Ty Walker slashing some waves.
Dom Harrington about to go down super hard in his short shorts but is so committed!

Keystone Slush Cup

Posted on
This weekend was closing weekend at one of my very favorite resorts, and where I spent 80% of my season, Keystone. It was a great season there considering the snow conditions, and I can't wait for next season already. (Although I will say that they are going to have an AWESOME mountain bike season!)

Keystone doesn't just decide to close... they go out with a bang... er, splash. Here are some pictures of this weekend's Slush Cup. All pictures are courteous of Keystone's Facebook page, and all photos were taken by Keystone's EpicMix Manager, Larry Hutton.
