Snow Sports Gallore!

Posted on
This past week was probably the busiest week for the snow sports industry, and it was all in Colorado! Earlier this week was The Denver Big Air which will be airing in my next entry (it's taking a while to put together). Later that week was X Games and the Snow Sports Trade Show in Denver to show off all of skiing and snowboarding's next year's gear.

This week was also the annual International Snow Sculpture Championships here in Breck. I missed the annual amatuer competition this year because it ended up being the same week as finals and Dew Tour, but here are some pictures that I took last night of the Pros!

(Sorry their not the best quality, they're from my iPhone. My camera is still dead from The Denver Big Air and I forgot to charge it!)

My favorite, which happens to be from a sculpture out of Franklin, WI. It's a Ullr face with Acorns for eyes, leaves for the face, and logs for mouth etc.

A swimming boy with his brother (shown in the 2nd picture from a different angle.)

My 2nd favorite, which happens to be Team Breck! Under water world.

Medusa. You can't see it here that well... but her hair is snakes.

Take a wild guess where these sculptures were from...

Weekend Recap

Posted on
This weekend I went to the X Games, and unfortunately it wasn't as fun as I thought it would be. Me and my friend Rachel got up at about 5:30am on Saturday so we could leave by 6:00. The drive was beautiful with the moon setting and the sun rising over the mountains. We got to Aspen, found parking, and took the bus to Buttermilk. Bobbie Jo, Dylan, Becky, and I started handing things out for CMC, but quickly got stopped by the security for "pirate marketing"... whattt?!? By 12:00pm it was extremely crowded, and I'm not a fan of crowds. I got to see a few of my friends who were competing for a few seconds, but they all seemed pretty busy and stressed. I didn't have a credential like I did for the Dew Tour either, so I was stuck at the bottom and couldn't get a great view of much. By 4:00pm we had had it with the crowd, and decided it would be best to head back to Breck. It was really cool to be able to see it in person, though. It was also fun to take my first real road trip in my new car!

It also happened to be the same weekend that Breckenridge was holding it's annual snow sculpturing contest, so after we got back me and Rachel went and checked them out. (Click on the pictures for a bigger view.)

Music and Art

Posted on
Last night my friend Evan had his 19th Birthday so he threw a party. He had his band play in his basement and they were awesome! After they were done playing I asked if I could hop on their drumset for a little while. A few of the band members quickly realized I knew what I was doing, so they started improvising with me. Before I knew it the entire band was jamming with me, including Evan on vocals and guitar. I looked up and the entire party, including all my friends were cheering me on. I hadn't told anyone I knew how to play the drumset, so I think it was quite a surprise. I really missed playing, and it felt awesome to be able to jam again. Hopefully next year I will be living in a house instead of an apartment so I can have my drumset in my basement. It's a natural talent I really took for granted growing up.

Then today me and my friends walked Main St. and looked at all the Snow Sculptures. I had seen a few of them a few days ago, and it's crazy to see how awesome they actually turned out! Here they are! My friend CJ helped sculpt the Starbucks one where she worked. They had put dry ice in the cup so it was steaming, but unfortunately it was done steaming by the time I took the picture.
